Queensland teenager Venessa Harris was diagnosed with rare bone cancer, Ewing Sarcoma at the age of 12, just months after winning a modelling competition that gifted her a modelling contract and a trip to Paris. Instead of taking her first trip to Europe, Venessa endured 32 weeks of chemotherapy.
We first met Venessa when her wish for the ultimate fashion experience was granted by Make-A-Wish Australia. We had the privilege of hosting her as a VIP guest at our MBFWA Resort 17 show in Sydney earlier in the year; after experiencing the organised chaos that is backstage at a runway show, Venessa then took her seat in the front row, alongside Australia’s leading fashion media, influencers and VIPs.
Following the show, Venessa visited us at sass & bide headquarters where she met her model idol and Make-A-Wish Ambassador Samantha Harris and featured in a photo shoot wearing our Resort 17 collection. Venessa’s mother Karen said that her confidence and self belief returned when her wish was granted.
Six months later, we were reunited with Venessa who has finished her treatment and is well on the road to recovery. Joining us to help promote our annual Make-A-Wish awareness campaign, Venessa took part in a photo shoot modelling our 2017 limited-edition STAR POWER necklace.
“It felt amazing to be back in front of the camera again, now that I’m feeling so much better.
It’s so important that we all do what we can to help Make-A-Wish Australia grant more wishes to children who need them most. I know first hand what a difference a granted wish can make.”
