DESIGNERS TELL THE STORY

In our search for creative inspiration for this season, we were struck by the dramatic shifts in the fashion
and music of the 1970s which totally transformed the mood of the 60s.

The 70s were alive with the informality of youth, but there was a new note of nostalgia, a search for spirituality in the ongoing struggle to liberate the future from past conventions, to seek out the elemental from nature.

Social fluidity was evident in the fluidity of fashion and also in the long, wistful silhouettes of striding women. Strong women on the pathway to liberation. All these compelling elements rendered a new bohemia in fashion.

LONG, WISTFUL SILHOUETTES OF STRIDING WOMEN. STRONG WOMEN ON THE PATHWAY TO LIBERATION.

We love the innocent optimism of Cat Stevens song, Moon Shadow, which draws on the symbolism and luminescence of the moon.

When Cat Stevens was walking the beach in Spain in the early 70s in the light of the full moon and the surrounding indigo of the sea, he saw for the first time, his shadow cast from the moon on to the sand. He was thrilled by his shadow, another self, moving as he moved, leaping in the surrounding darkness.

This was a revelation – the light had found him in the darkness.

From this we found aesthetic references in moonlight and night - shadows cast, the light and dark sides of the moon and an essence from nature which is both mythical and real.

Then we mixed it all up
in the sass & bide way...

We hand-designed prints in-house with an elegant, bohemian graphic, we added rock glam references and Victoriana frills (an ancestor of the 70s!) in blouses with luxe contrast velvet trims. We took the craft techniques of crochet and macramé from the 70s and created loose, light pieces which mixed Victorian gothic with folk-commune.

AND VICTORIANA FRILLS (AN ANCESTOR OF THE 70S!)

Metallic fabrications and rose gold opalescent finishes reflect bouncing light with dancing movement. Black and white create drama, wide leg palazzo silhouettes are influenced by the long line of the 70s in striking contrast to the 60s mini skirt, strips of hand-sewn panels across sheer fabric are unashamedly contemporary.
