THOUSANDS OF THOUGHTS, SCORES OF SKETCHES, ROLLS AND ROLLS OF FABRIC… SPRING FALL 18 COMES TO LIFE.

Gustav Klimt is said to have had many muses, many of them also his lovers, but it is Emilie Flöge who is thought to have been both his closest muse and life partner. She was a leading fashion designer in Vienna and had a successful couture salon with her sisters, Schwestern Flöge (Flöge Sisters). Flöge championed soft unrestricted silhouettes at a time when fitted bodices were the norm. Known for her style of loose, empire-cut dresses, with wide sleeves and intricate embroidery, she lived an unusually independent life for her time – unmarried and running her own business.

The story of Gustav Klimt and his muse has inspired the contrast between masculinity and femininity throughout the Spring Fall 18 collection. This is explored through the soft fluid silks and menswear tailoring featured heavily throughout. These elements are mixed together in pieces like the Light Reign Skirt – the perfect clash of rough detailing in an elegant female silhouette. Sharp tailored blazers are softened with decorative embroidered sleeves, and denim is feminised with a raw cut frill.

COLOUR
Soft gilded pink and olive green are the key colours this season, complimented by navy, ivory, black, and vintage blue denim. Sand washed satin glows in russet red alongside shimmering golden caramels; an autumnal hint of the cooler months ahead.

PRINTS
Decorative prints are influenced by mosaic techniques with motifs taken apart and reassembled, creating intricate and unique patterns. Abstract protea flower foliage is collaged and spliced with geometric shapes to form delicate designs. The protea flower motif is echoed throughout the collection in prints, embroideries and accoutrement; a symbol of femininity and strong beauty. Hand-painted geometric prints provide a human touch and artistry, complimenting strong block colours and tailoring. Untamed beauty and feminine strength resonates throughout the collection in the wild russet and olive leopard prints.

METALLICS
Inspired by the gilded works of Gustav Klimt, The Master & The Muse embodies a rich tapestry of textured metallic finishes. Silver and gold beading cascade across shoulders and frame necklines whilst hammered gold embellishments attract the eye in geometric patterns. Ruffled collars and cuffs are edged with fine silver chain, and earrings are constructed from mosaic-like tiles. Golden, antique textured cuffs alongside intricate mesh combine for a glowing tribute to Klimt and his ornate artistry.
